summer camp policies & procedures

At Community Clayworks, we collaborate with our teaching artists to create engaging and educational camps tailored to different age groups. To help ensure a successful experience, please review the camp descriptions carefully and register your child based on their age and skill level.

What to Wear & Bring to Camp

Expect a little mess! Kids should wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty—sneakers are ideal. While most clay and glaze materials wash out, an apron or smock may be helpful for those who prefer extra protection.

For wheel-throwing camps, each child must bring an old towel. We provide all other materials, but if your child has their own clay tools, they are welcome to bring them.

If your child has specific needs, please reach out to us at staff@communityclayworks.com so we can discuss accommodations.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

Drop-off and pick-up take place at the studio.

Please call (805) 686-5416 or email staff@communityclayworks.com if:

  • Your child will arrive more than 15 minutes late

  • Your child is unable to attend camp

Drop-off guidelines:

  • Arrive no earlier than 8:55 AM

  • Do not drop off more than 5 minutes before camp starts

Pick-up guidelines:

  • Morning camp: Pick up by 12:05 PM

  • Afternoon camp: Pick up by 4:05 PM

  • Extended pick-up is not available

If you are running late, please notify us by phone or email.

Check-In & Check-Out

  • Campers under age 13 must be signed in and out by a designated adult.

  • Campers ages 13-15 may check themselves in and out, but a parent/guardian must provide written permission on the emergency contact form.

  • Campers will only be released to the adults listed on their emergency contact form.

Snacks & Lunch Breaks

  • Each camp includes a 10-minute snack break. Please pack a labeled snack and drink for your child.

  • Full-day campers should bring lunch, two snacks, and a beverage each day.

  • If your child has food allergies, please ensure they know how to manage them. Our staff will supervise all snack and lunch breaks, and full-day campers will have supervised playtime during lunch.

Completed Projects

The ceramic process takes time! Since pieces need to dry and be kiln-fired, finished projects will be ready approximately 2-3 weeks after camp ends. We’ll email you when they are available for pickup.

  • Campers will create multiple pieces during camp—expect around 5-8 finished items.

  • All materials and firing costs are included in the camp fee.

  • Cleaning up is part of the experience, and we incorporate it into class time.

  • While we take great care with every project, clay is fragile, and occasional damage may occur during the drying, firing, or glazing process.

Camp Payment & Cancellation Policy

  • Full payment is required at registration.

  • You will receive a confirmation once the camp meets the minimum enrollment or no later than 14 days before camp begins.

  • If a camp does not meet minimum enrollment, it will be canceled, and you will receive a full refund.

  • To receive a refund, cancellations must be made at least 14 days before the first day of the camp session your child is registered for.

  • Cancellation requests must be emailed to staff@communityclayworks.com.

  • We do not offer refunds or prorated tuition for missed camp days.

Photography at Camp

We love capturing special moments at camp for promotional and educational purposes! Photos may be used in marketing materials, but we never share personal details like names or ages. You’ll have the option to grant or deny photo permission on the emergency contact form after registration.
